Millrace
The park’s mostly a rather steep wilderness on the side of the gorge, but its most famous feature is Glade Creek Mill. This is that mill, as the sign testifies, but it’s none of the usual pictures.I’ve taken those photographs, too, but….

Twin Lakes State Park
South of Houghton, Michigan, on the Keweenaw Peninsula. One of the few places we’ve camped that didn’t overlook the Great Lakes.

Joan in the Sunshine
In mid-July we hit the beaches. We make an overnight excursion to Ludington. We spend the day at South Haven, Saugatuck, or Norton Shores. We set up camp in Cheboygan. Or Harrisville. Or Port Austin. All the same: We’re at the beach.

Picnic
We spent a couple nights in Ludington. Watched the ferry (Badger) come and go, walked the beach in town and at the state park, explored downtown a bit, found an excellent meal, and visited both the Pier Light and Big Sable. A good weekend.

Wilfred Sykes
A decade ago we made a day trip to Muskegon, where we walked the beach, followed a trail through the woods at the state park, watched Lake Express rush off to Milwaukee, and saw the Sykes for the first time in my life.

Old Reliable
A year ago–a dull grey day, as you can see–we decided to leave our Fort Wilkins campsite and visit the mine. It was an interesting visit, and we got some good photographs. Definitely worth the trip.
