I’m a spectator of farms, and my favorite crop’s wheat.
They plant wheat in the fall. It grows until the snows, then makes a green carpet alongside the spring work of planting corn, then planting soybeans. The colors change as summer arrives, and for a time wheat fields mix green and gold.
Around mid-July the farmers haul out the big machines and harvest the grain. A few days later they harvest the straw.
The gold soon fades.
