Joan said “How about we vacation in the Alleghenies?” (I confess I’m doing some paraphrasing, here.) So we found a place called Loleta.
Loleta was once a logging town in western Pennsylvania, but the trees ran out, the mill closed, and the town was abandoned about a century ago. There’s now a National Forest campground where the town was, with CCC construction at the site and trails through the woods. The camp also turned out to be a fine base for day trips to PA historic sites.
