This little swamp is on Dow Road, which is the town line road between Sunfield and Roxand Townships in Eaton County, Michigan. It’s a bit of bog, with a small pond, and a very short creek. It feeds (or joins) a drain called Winchell and Union, which runs parallel to Dow on the Roxand side of the road.
Like the title says: Often I just climb in the car and drive around until I discover a photograph. Eventually I’ll find a house, or a barn, or an old schoolhouse. Or I’ll see a wide sweeping landscape. Perhaps I’ll notice a tiny creek, alongside the road, on the edge of a field.
The drain’s name courtesy of Eaton County Geographic Information System, which I just love. GIS doesn’t actually seem to acknowledge this offshoot’s existence.
