Last Friday, during my lunch break, I purchased (or thought I did, anyway) a copy of Office 2007 through my employer’s link to Microsoft’s Home User Program, which seems to be run by Digital River. The routine was: Follow the link from our intranet to the HUP website, where they requested my work email address. They sent an email to the work address, with a link to another page where the actual offer was available. I filled in a short form to make the purchase. Then I waited for a confirmation at the home email address they’d requested I provide.
I took the link/email/link sequence to be a validation that I work at a place where they’ve made an HUP agreement. That may have been an optimistic assumption.
I’ve still not received that confirmation email. After some hunting on the HUP website, I found this message:
We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request.
The following problem(s) exist:
Your order is currently in a review status
Beg pardon, folks? Whatever can you be “reviewing” that takes four days? You’re waiting for HR to confirm my existence, perhaps? (Should I call Enrique and push things along?) Or perhaps you’ve sicced the Pinkertons on me? Is this long delay common? Shouldn’t you have warned me about it? You can’t be bothered to send a courtesy email?
How about you give my money back?
Wednesday, May 5: Still waiting. They must be digging hard….
I tried to buy it too and got the exact same message. Any update from HUP?
As a matter of fact, yes (updated this on Facebook but forgot to do so here). I sent an enquiry through the HUP site’s contact form, and got told that the transaction got cancelled for one of four reasons, none of which seemed to directly apply. My best guess is that they won’t ship the (backup) DVD to a PO Box.
They did invite me to try again, but we decided we could do without.
… ok! seems that i’ll have to contact them and find out what I did wrong
thanks!
I had the same situation. sent them an email, and received the following reply:
**************
We apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately your product key were not generated at the time of your purchase. We have taken action to resolve this issue on your behalf. Please check the download page of your order again after 24-48 hours.

It has been 4 days since I received their email but no luck.
credit card transaction is still in pending status . I don’t know why!
I just received another email from them:

Our records indicate that your order has been cancelled, and your credit card has not been charged. Orders are normally cancelled for one of the following reasons:
– The billing address that you supplied did not match the billing address your credit card issuer has on file.
– The product ordered is no longer available for shipment or has been discontinued.
– The carrier selected cannot deliver to the address specified.
– The order was cancelled at your request.

I’m going to order it again ;)
Thanks, Adel. That’s exactly the response they sent me. Not entirely helpful, as they must know which of the four “answers” applies.
Good luck. If I were to try again, I’d do so without ordering the backup DVD, and see if that worked better.
I recv’d same notice, though I have not gotten to the “reasons why” step yet.
I wonder if it is because Office 2010 will be offered in June?
BOb: You might be right. MS just offerred to upgrade my non-existent Office 2007.
I just tried mine yesterday as 2010 is now available. I too am getting this same error. I want to say SCAM after reading this thread.
My request processed normally.
Good, Nate, & thanks. I actually assume that most such purchases do go through; I’ve had many successful transactions with both MS and DR over the years. Doesn’t reduce my frustration at all, of course.
I’m also getting confusing instructions on MS HUP site.
During the purchase process, my application managed to successfully navigate through “ShoppingCart” –> “Billing” –> “Confirm” pages. However, when I landed on the “Thank You” page, I got the following message:
“We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request. The following problem(s) exist: Your order is currently in a review status. Your payment could not be completed”
“Review Status”?? None of the instructions mentioned it’ll go through a review process?? Anyways,I tried to apply for it again using their exact instructions, but now it states that I have already made the purchase.
I have sent a request to HUP help site. Lets see how it goes.
BTW, Joel, I followed your advice by not ordering Backup disks (which makes sense). Lets hope it’ll help…
I got the “currently in reveiw status” after purchasing Office 2010. I called MS. They said it could take up to 24 hours to recieve the email for download. I got the email about an hour after I called.
these guys are a joke. Im sure they have a few hoops to jump through as a lot of people try and score freebies… But when it is at the expense of genuinely eligble people like me it REALLY bugs me.
Scares me about buying any M$ product in future.
