Ron Modra’s gorgeous baseball photographs, mostly of players who starred in the 80s and 90s.
There’s also a fairly long essay by Pat Jordan; it’s well-written (of course) but covers much the same material he’s examined in his other baseball books. Certainly worth reading in this context, but its relation to the photographs is weak. Many photos also feature two or three paragraph captions by either Modra or the picture’s subject; these are, collectively, more interesting than Jordan’s essay. At least to me.
Mostly it’s a beautiful picture book. And valuable for that.
