I’m pretty agnostic about the syndication formats–I use RSS 2.0 because it does the job for me, and haven’t tried to implement its ancestors and competitors. While my feeds pass the Pilgrim/Ruby feed validator‘s tests, I’m not quite happy with them due mostly to the tools I use. Some day I’ll likely address that, but it isn’t yet high on my fix list.
Agnostic or no, I’ve been watching the continuing debate about the topic. And when Tim Bray and Jon Udell both show up in my aggregator expressing concerns about the shortcomings of the entire breed, I can’t help but notice. The essays are on different topics, actually, and address different issues. Both are well worth reading.
Just a note: I’ve changed tools a couple times since writing this note, and no longer worry about the details of the feeds. This is good.
