As I predicted, we hooked Joan's new weather station to the PC this afternoon and gave Joan a chance to play with the software. I still like the system--and I still think its design needs a lot of work.

But it is by no means "wireless," despite the name. The "Thermo-Hygro Sensor"--I think that means thermometer/barometer--does indeed house a radio transmitter which transmits data to the Weather Station proper, but the Wind Sensor (ain't it just too cute?) and Rain Sensor are both tethered to the T-H Sensor by cables--32 foot cables, to be exact.

Tom called home. "Suzanne, I'm running late; stopped to have dinner with Becky and we're waiting for the bill." Suzanne apparently didn't take this well. Becky borrowed the phone, and started to explain: "Hi, Suzanne...." Suzanne hung up on her.

Turns out I don't think the laptop makes a satisfactory PDA, despite its obvious advantages and excellent form factor, so I bought a Palm Tungsten E the other day and have been whipping it into shape. It's a pretty slick device.
