Macalester College had a student-run coffee house, No Exit, which lived behind the college grill in the Student Union's basement in the late '60s. It was a cozy, black-painted place with good entertainment, good sound, and decent food.  Leo, who struck me as a young white man impersonating an old drunken blues singer, played there regularly when I was a freshman and a sophomore.  (The music redeemed the act.)

Old Kenyon Fire

On the day I was born, fortress-like Old Kenyon on the campus of Kenyon College burned, taking the lives of nine students. Lee Schermerhorn, a student at the time, captured motion pictures of the fire. A version of that film, and other film Schermerhorn shot before and after the fire, is available on the Kenyon College website.

The Weather Station

But it is by no means "wireless," despite the name.  The "Thermo-Hygro Sensor"--I think that means thermometer/barometer--does indeed house a radio transmitter which transmits data to the Weather Station proper, but the Wind Sensor (ain't it just too cute?) and Rain Sensor are both tethered to the T-H Sensor by cables--32 foot cables, to be exact.

Opening Day

Battle Creek's Chase Wright pitched well, and looks impressive, but threw too many pitches and was visibly tired by the fifth.  Regardless, Sean Marshall, a lanky guy with some apparent potential, pitched a better game.  The most interesting thing seen was Lansing's Clay Rapada, who is a radical sidewinder; don't remember seeing a southpaw throw like that before.  Lansing's Kyle Boyer had a fine day at the plate.
